Tonight I have been mostly drinking

Beer has always been my drink of choice, but I tried for many years do develop an eppreciation for wine, but it's just too hit and miss. Price is no indication; you can spend £20 and still get a bottle of something that's barely suitable for sprinking on chips.

I can't be bothered to invest the amount of time it takes to get a physics PHD just to be able to pick out something drinkable at the local off-licence. I'm sticking to beer from here on in. There are some fantastic real ales, beligian beers and lagers out there that I reckon knock a bottle of wine into a cocked hat :D

In addition, I watched an interesting program on the television that was saying that an awful lot of wines and champagnes, including some well known labels, Veuve Clicquot is one I recall, use additives and improvers. The French lobied the EU so that wine makers didn't have to put the ingredients on the label for this very reason. Whereas if you look at most beer bottle labels there are just four ingredients: water, barley, hops and yeast. With the exception of some speciality belgian beers which include some herbs and spices or fruit for flavour.
