Today-Tuesday-Hazy Summer day, about 80 F. - I fitted a new, lighter and quite a bit larger front tire to my bike, a Schwalbe Nobby Nic 2.4. It's about 100 grams lighter than the Continental 2.2 I have been using and I really like it.
Grip on the downhill is really improved, especially going through gravel and rocky areas, and the steering is quicker and easier thanks to the weight savings. Up to the West today about 900' up and then down a fast, slippery descent to test out the new front tire- Works great, very cushy and confidence inspiring...

Strange thing I have found with Nobby Nic's is that they either really suit the bike, or they really don't.
I have a pair that I have moved from bike to bike and not got on well with them at all, until I put them on a 1994 DeKerf Mountain, which they suited perfectly and which I had a lot of confidence in. When I moved the wheels and tyres onto another rigid bike, a Dave Lloyd Cats Wiskas, I was back to the nasty slippy things that broke away unpredictably.
Glad they suit your bike and the conditions, they certainly look good.

I think the frame geometry on the bikes you didn't like them on is the problem, not the tire. If you think about it, the tire is gonna have the same grip-it hasn't changed-steeper head and seat tube angles and shorter wheelbases will climb better, but they won't have the same grip in the dirt, as they'll load the tire much quicker, especially in the turns, thus slipping a lot more than on the longer, more relaxed angle frames.
I use a 2.25 Racing Ralph on the back of the bike and it works very well, also...

Today-Thursday-Amazingly enough, it rained last night and this morning-not very much, about .3 inch, but the first rain since March-not enough to do anything about our ongoing drought, but enough to wet down the dust on the trails and make the roots on them very slippery, as we found out today. It was also very warm, about 78 F. and humid-usually when it rains around here it is quite a bit cooler and easier to deal with. We rode up to the West about 1000' to the hangout at the Council Rocks-nice to be out...
