Today-Thursday-So I'm sitting on my deck in the sun this morning, waiting for the ride to start, when I noticed this large black Carpenter bee-all black, but the size of a Bumblebee, guarding my Geranium flowers from all the other smaller bees, chasing them away when they got too close. This went on for the whole 45 minutes or so that I was sitting there, and the exact same thing happened last spring-so I took a pic of my guardian, hovering at 9 O'clock in the photo A warm afternoon ride, about 85 F. and sunny. five of us rode up Eldridge Grade to the 1000' level to go down to Lake Lagunitas-got there and found I'd dropped my shades somewhere on the way up, so I shot back down 800' or so looking for them, then climbed back up another, steeper but shorter way back up about 600' to the lakes...
