A couple of dozen hornets can wipe out an entire beehive in a matter of hours.

yeah didnt national geogrpahic upload a video of this to youtube? something like 10 hornets vs 30000 bees  but the bees have an awsome secret weapon! 10points if you can tell me what it is

haha yeah it felt like i was going to gravy my clothes  you invented a new saying!

Dirtydozen, that wasp thing what ever it is, is truly eerie

Japanese bees surround the wasp and 'cook' it. European honey bees can't deal with them and die

so does everyone reakon i should have killed it then ?

I uploaded a pic to a nature forum (insect section).... and basically apparently they are mis-understood and it would have been a shame to kill it....
you dont see many hornets around so they cant be that succesful !! im not sure our hornets do just kill hundreds of bees for the sake of it.... (unlike to japenese hornet).. I think they just kill to eat, just like us really...
As this is so early in the year and its so large... apparently this would have been a queen hornet and it would have been the only hornet from its nest that survived the winter.
I kind of think nature will run its course and its usually best to leave it alone. :)
