Today I caught a MASSIVE hornet !! with pics !!!

Surely killing off the hornet upsets the balance to protect bees.

A bit like upsetting the balance by releasing otters I suppose.

Came across this Hornet Queen a few weeks back and you can see its size in comparison to a lighter

When "unstretched" its nearly 40mm

Was visited in my cellar the other by a bee the size of a 50p piece - it was ace.

The sound that came off of it was like a tiny bomber plane.

I love bees 8)

There was a massive buzzing noise coming from my garden last week and it was a giant queen bee stuck in a spider web....I released her and carefully picked the silk off her wings and let her fly away....felt quite pleased with myself afterwards 8)

Your go to heaven.

I think I am single handedly supporting the local bee population at the moment

I have 12 large berberis (spelling ?) separating my front garden from the pavement (cant have walls or fences :?) and at a busy time I can find at least four on each plant – and the GF cant figure out how the one I posted above found its way into the house

Whilst we are on the subject of flying insects – anyone know what UK based insect builds a light brown nest about the size and shape of a golf ball with a hole in the bottom ?

WD :D
