tIB's Custom Pace RC300 build

Ive ordered a 9 speed x5 shifter - will see what the quality is like as what I really wanted was an x7. The good news is I used the joint account to pay for it, so if its not up to standard Ill keep an eye out for the (seemingly difficult to find) 9spd x7! I may get to ride this thing at some point!!!

Well i willkeep my fingers crossed for you mate that the X5 is upto the job because as you say the X7 seems as rare as hens teeth so i hope your mrs doesn't mind you using that account ..

Oh she does, but I'm hoping my recent DIY megawin has out me in the clear- if not I'll claim it was parts!

Interested to see what the cheaper end of sram is like- I've been impressed with the newer x9's on the maxlight- I think as they get older they trickle the designs down: the older x7 look like the even older x9 and so on. Shame their from mechs are a bit ugly though!

Can't wait to bloody ride this thing proper!

DIY mega win now i like the sound of that 8) ,and i hope she'll buy into that i'll claim it was parts if need be ;) ..

Yes i do believe the designs do get moved slowly down the range when they bring a new top range groupset out so that's why the X7 looks like an older X9 as it's cheaper for the overall production of the ranges compared to a complete revamp of all the model ranges ..

I don't understand either why their front mechs are so ugly when other manufacturers do a much better job of the designs so any way i can quite understand you getting T'd off waiting to get a proper ride of the bike as i know i'd be feeling the same to ..

Yup, it's been despatched today so shouldn't have to wait too much longer. Meanwhile my spacers have arrived so will look again at the crank tomorrow... Slowly but surely!

So, 9 speed x5 is here and on, spacers are one, gears appear to be setup as needed... I just need to test ride it and I may well be done.

The x5 isn't bad at all- bit more plasticy than the x7 and x9 but not enough for me to replace unless I find one for cheap! And it works... Hopefully.

Oh goody! 8) now i just have to wait for the ride update as it all seems rather promising now it's setup ..

So the X5 is a bit more plasticy compared to the X7 and X9 so no worries if it does the job and feels sturdy enough in use so lets see how it all goes for now and only worry if things don't pan out ..

Yeah, I was pleasantly surprised - it's only really the shift lever that you notice it on, and it seems to work fine. I will keep an eye out for an x7 9 speed on eBay - if I can do it on the (really) cheap I'll match up eventually.

Test ride later...

Well just bide your time then and even if you don't seem to have much luck on ebay finding a cheaply priced X7 9speed shifter you just may fall lucky on here unless you can find some thing on Gum Tree near you ..

Fingers crossed the test ride goes well and that your only niggle is a slightly notchy feel to the shifter ..
