Ti Donohue mini 'build' thread

...not so much of a build in the true sense, more like deep clean, replace a few parts with original spec and clean and lubricate everything:

starting point post collection (from Mike on this forum - thanks Mike for preserving this lovely and unique bike):

non original Power Torque ( ughhh!) Campy chainset and a few other heavy and clunky parts here but a very sound condition overall for a 1990 frameset that is apparently 1 of only 5 that Paul Donohue built out of Reynolds 2000 butted titanium tubing.
some cleaning and fettling to do:

nice wheelset from Pete Matthews in Liverpool , plus Campy record titanium which isn't that common and has survived well.
First job is to remove the Campy Power Torque Chainset and BB which is always a collossal struggle to pull the LH crank off the splined hollow axle monstrosity - why on earth Campagnolo thought this was a good design to replace square taper I will never know...

Successfully replaced BB and Chainset with matching Campagnolo record items - which not only look nicer but also weigh a lot less.

Scrubbed the frame with 'extra fine' nylon scouring pad to remove accumulated gronk and treated with lightly applied WD40 to restore the titanium to its former self

All the Campy components, plus hubs and freewheel have also had some TLC

A new saddle and lighter modern chain have taken some more weight off and a little fiddling around with the front mech position and fine tuning has made the shifting super slick. I had to source a 111mm BB to get chainline exactly right for the braze-on front mech. but all is well now and very crisp for a 35 year old machine

next job will be to source ti quill stem and seat post - but happy enough with how it is for the moment and looking forward to some crisp autumn rides ahead
