There's a difference between art and craft. This is supremely skilled work, but the design isn't what I would call artistic. To be fair to Mercian though, the colour scheme and design could have been specified by their customer.

Some of the Yo Eddy designs were what I would call artistic, but in their case it was the skill that was sometimes lacking (judging from how many of them needed to repainted not that long afterwards).
