I suspect the title of the thread just sent shivers down the collective spines of most UK based members. Pulled this out of a skip about a year ago right when I got back into cycling with the intention of modernizing it.
Stripped it down to the frame, pretty much everything ended up in the scrap pile. Debadged some of the gaudier graphics, then it got hung up as I dived head first into cycling, built a few bikes and turned into a roadie. Having had my Bianchi wrote off last month, I stripped it yesterday and having both A) a pile of parts from it and B) a good stock of parts accumulated over the last year, I thought it was about time to do something with it.
The original mech was a TY20 (hence where I got the year from, could be wrong though) with a claw hanger - as nice as gears are, those dropout hangers are kind of shite and that along with having to get the wheel dished etc, couldn't really be bothered. Normally I'd say cheap and cheerful is the theme, but this is just cheap
Parts pillaged from the Bianchi were the wheelset (bar a replacement front Ksyrium I got off fb marketplace for a tenner), Ultegra 6800 STI levers and brakes, FSA bars and a pro stem. Out of the spares box is a very worn Ultegra 6800 crankset, DMR V12s, a 16t DMR single speed kit, chain and some saddles. Needed post, BB and a brake cable kit. Bank hol weekend and impatience got the better of me so those were picked up from Amazon.
Stripped the remaining graphics and gave it a bit of a t-cut and clean up. Bored the front/rear mounts with an 8mm bit to accept recessed mount but sadly the drop wasn't enough to reach, so have ordered some Tektro R559s. The original plan was to run 42x16 as I had some spare narrow wides however I'd forgotten Ultegra spiders are 110BCD whereas the rings are 104, so I stuck the original Ultegra big ring on for 50x16. Post is cheap shite that'll be getting a lick of black paint as will the seat clamp. Will end up changing the saddle for something that isn't as bulky and probably the bar tape too, should have it finished up during the week sometime
