Synthetic technical wear is also a good call. From a quality manufacturer. They are warm, comfy, lightweight, and the best that they do not absorb moist, and dry quickly. For high humidity or wet environment really good choice^ You are kidding me @Betsy - H/H Polypropylene bases layers are great.
Got some from almost 20 years ago and they are still the bees knees. If anything, I have been known to go in - erm - the ladies department for tights and socks as a base layer to put on before the H/H stuff. The moment you can create minute air gaps and an air insulation cushion next to the skin it's all good.
+1 for Gore. It's good to mix a bit between Goretex and Gore Windstopper for when it's really cold and dry. Windtex is also good.
