Thermal trousers anyone have a pair?

Been looking at thermal trousers but have no idea. Are those tight ones really that tight? Are they awkward to put on and take off?
Are there better ones that fit a bit loose but also can wear normal trousers over the top?
Or is it best to just get one pair of trousers that will act as both? whatever I'll need two pairs
Cheers

For winter i recommend some gore windstopper jacket+trousers. A thin baselayer for cold days. A waterproof breathable rain gear (jacket+trousers).
And a cold and waterproof biking shoe for winter. Merino socks. Windstopper gloves. A pair of waterproof ones too.
Thats all you need.
Gore bikewear is a brand you can trust, but expensive.
If you tell me your location and sizes maybe i can help

I wear a full Woolpower 200g base at this time of year.. leggins and long sleeve.. they're ethically made, no sweatshop crap!

I started wearing their 400g base years ago for winter camping trips..
At this time of year i'll pull them on in the morning, (Showers Pass) track pants over the top, cycle to work, track pants off, work jeans on over the Woolpower.. work in them (i'm too tight/northern to put the heating on in the workshop) track pants back on and cycle home.. Because they're Merino, they only need washing once a/week, if that.. even with daily wear.

They're not in any way tight.. i wear black for ninja-steeze, just buy your regular size.

Another thumbs up for Gorewear products from me

In regards to fit, loose thermo inner layers are not going to give you the insulation that you want. You need it to be fitted against your skin, covering as much as possible.

A good fitting inner layer should be tight, in a snug fitted way, but stretchy, conforming to movements, so try some on and stretch out in different position and see it the fit conforms. If it doesn't that is too tight. Mind you they will all be a bit snug to begin with.

And regarding wool inner layers, I'm a big fan as well and they tend to have a more stretchy and comfy fit than 100% synthetic products.

I wouldn't wear a synthetic base.. i've been scared by synthetic helly hanson base layers of the 90s.. or smelly-helly as they were known..

Here you go.. my cold weather road/commuter kit.. Gorewear Shakedry, Albion L/S Jersey underneath, Showers Pass Track Pants, Woolpower base and leaky Gore Converse.. oh and 90's era Girl skateboards beenie

^ You are kidding me @Betsy - H/H Polypropylene bases layers are great.

Got some from almost 20 years ago and they are still the bees knees. If anything, I have been known to go in - erm - the ladies department for tights and socks as a base layer to put on before the H/H stuff. The moment you can create minute air gaps and an air insulation cushion next to the skin it's all good.

+1 for Gore. It's good to mix a bit between Goretex and Gore Windstopper for when it's really cold and dry. Windtex is also good.

Nice to see these quality (for me) exotic merino thingies.
Never heard of these brands before.
I have plenty of sets of different types, from manufacturers Patagonia (my fav since 20 years, repaired it and still in use), Odlo, Ortovox, and Icebreaker as i can recall.

Merino is the ti of clothing.

Durable, protects from cold, natural, and the best it's easy to maintain.
Just let it hang for a while in the wind and the sun, and it's clean again, really non smelly after long term use. Rarely requires real washing.

Ideal for longer expeditions. Just let it hang outside your bag while riding, and it's refreshed in some hours.
Did half year in one Ortovox t-shirt, had no issues with anything.

Planet x has nice bargains on merino bikerwear.
