The Future??

I think the reason electric shift systems haven't been accepted by MTB riders in the past is: A. Concerns over Reliability, battery life, and weight. B. The Thumbs we all come equipped with are very reliable, don't add weight, and generally work for the whole ride, however long it lasts! If the new systems overcome the weight, reliability and battery life issues, they might catch on. However, most cyclists are relatively conservative when it comes to radical new ideas and I think that, plus the cost and extra weight, will keep it from success in the current marketplace, should they offer a system for sale.

As an analogy, I think the introduction of drive-by-wire throttles in cars makes more objective sense, than electronic gears on bikes - but then I still think electronic throttles often introduce more problems and complexities than they're worth

I haven't had a car with with windows that go up and down by wire yet. :D

You obviously havn't owned any Italian exotica then.

Setting window cables on 60's Italian cars is a nightmare job.

+1 Dr. S. I , too, have owned 9 Alfa's that all had wire cable window lift mechanisms, and they truly are a nightmare to install!

I've had a little play with them at work and from a riders point of view they are great . One tap and the front shifts and self adjusts so there is no rub on the mech . You can't stop thinking about the old airlines and what happened to that system ?
