I think the reason electric shift systems haven't been accepted by MTB riders in the past is: A. Concerns over Reliability, battery life, and weight. B. The Thumbs we all come equipped with are very reliable, don't add weight, and generally work for the whole ride, however long it lasts! If the new systems overcome the weight, reliability and battery life issues, they might catch on. However, most cyclists are relatively conservative when it comes to radical new ideas and I think that, plus the cost and extra weight, will keep it from success in the current marketplace, should they offer a system for sale.
