Suspension fork to Rigid fork. Sizes

Seventy Three

Retro Newbie
My bike build is almost done (Kona 2005 frame) but I still need a front fork, and prefereably a rigid one.

The bike would have originally came with a Marzocchi DJ suspension fork with a 100mm drop so, after investigation and trawling various forums, its seems that a rigid fork of 445mm seems to be the correct size.

I want a carbon fork though, to save a little weight, but they're expensive and I'm on a budget but I've came across a superstar carbon fork (which is essencially the same fork as Nukeproof and Exotic just branded differently) for the right price but its a 425mm size.

So my question is: will 2cm less at the front cause any major geometry problems or in the great scheme of things will I really notice at all?

Cheers in advance,

David

Not sure!
Butyou can get Pace RC31 forks with 440mm a-c for around £110 on eBay and they weigh 200g less which is almost 1/2lb!

Disscontinued mate. Apparently though they're exactly the same as nukeproof and exotic carbons though. Might just save up for a brand new set of exotics in a 445mm.

At least with a lighter front end I'll be able to pull a wheelie :D

I realise that a 2005 frame isn't wholly retro but I am interested in advice which is why I'm here. I value the experience of others even in more contemporary areas. Besides, my question about forks was not completely aimed at carbon ones but to find out what size rigid forks I'd need to replace the suspension forks that would originally have came with the frame. No offence intended.
