Sup’s ‘96 Voodoo Hoodoo Build

Long story short, I lost what I thought was my forever job (politics is a bunch of BS) and struggling through depression, I’m trying to get life back on track.

My daughter’s Specialized Crosstrail was recently stolen after I put a ton of upgrades on it this year. We enjoyed a lot of great rides together over the summer. The time together really kept both of us grounded.

That brings us to this - a ‘96 Voodoo. The goal is comfort, reliability and ease of use. I recently discovered the joy of a steel frame. Perhaps she will appreciate the ride too. Seemingly one of the good years with Ritchey dropouts, it will be equipped with Mavic CrossLink wheels, Shimano Deore 1x10 components, Rock Shox Psylo, Ritchey cockpit and Thomson stem & seatpost.

Sorry to hear of your bad luck. Not to make light of it but hopefully the worst is behind you.

Love the colour of the frame. Looking forward to see how this turns out.

Well that all sucks

Great that you've found a new project.
Looks like you've got most of the parts sorted. Let's hope your daughter enjoys every second riding it.👍

Hope your daughter isn't too upset by the loss of her bike and that you're looking forward to a better future.
Your lass has a lovely bike on the way : )

Interested to see how she likes it.

I like where you're going with this. To me, those old Murray designs ride great slacked out just a teeny bit with an 80mm suspension fork. Brings the handlebars more than a smidge closer, which the women in my life would really appreciate. On my Kona, I actually had to go up a size, although unlike them, I'm built like a chimpanzee basically

I had to really tinker with the setup to get it balanced out, so it would climb even a little bit, and actually steer and stuff. Especially challenging if one wants riser bars; I did, and she may. Gotta pay attention to her center of gravity and all that. Probably want to be thinking about a straight seatpost, and might need to try some different stems. Sometimes ya gotta kiss a few frogs before you find your prince.

You're barking up the right tree. All things are impermanent, except how you treat your kids. Being a good Dad brings light to all future generations. We should get more credit.

Thanks for the kind words, all.

I'll post up a photo of the # on the BB, sam_white.

Not pictured are a Ritchey Buzzard bar (narrowed 25mm from each side), SDG Bel-Air saddle, 36t chainring, Thomson 410mm straight seatpost and Wellgo M195 pedals. Also had to get a clamp on cable stop to run V-brakes.

In the USA the sloping top tube is a thing, so it will have a low stand over height. And she can drop the seatpost if she wants to get aggressive for downhill stints.

The frame is yet to be sanded and painted black. H Lloyd Cycles is [hopefully] mocking up a new decal set in purple/silver/white as I post this.
