I just picked this bike up locally on eBay. I was looking for a project and this bike is just my size. I'm not sure it counts as a classic, but I like it.

I don't know much about Sun bikes, but this one looks as if it might be close to original spec, apart from the horrible saddle.

It is badged as Sun Worksop. I like the look of the lugs, especially the polished steel or chrome head tube and lugs. Steel Sunshine 5345 hubs and steel Rims, GB Maes bars.

It appears to have been repainted/powdercoated by a previous owner to personalise it.

Here are some pics of the untouched bike and any info would be appreciated.

Clearly has been repainted, has a Worksop head badge so made at the Carlton works. The 10" chrome front forks and chromed headset could point to a Mass Start 100 model. What frame number prefix letter is it on? Check by the LHS rear drop out.

Re:

Thanks for the info.

It's a bit unclear but i don't think there is a prefix letter. As far as I can see the number is 146813.

Does this give any clues to model and year?

I won't have time to start renovating it for about two months so I have plenty of time to decide what to do about painting it and how much to do to it. Although they are in good condition, with just surface pitting that should polish up OK I am not happy with the extra weight of the steel rims.

Like Carlton, a non prefix number would indicate it possibly dates from 68-72, assuming Sun adopted this approach to numbering too. I don't see why not.
