** Stooge Mk5 **

They are M5 x 10 for the frame and fork, M8 x 15 for the two locating the eccentric bb, M6 for the brakes and you’ll find them all on eBay 👍🏻

Haven’t had flat pedals in years, so decided to have a look at what’s recommended and see if something caught my eye.

I like things to tie-in on my builds, and the only thing left was the Brooks saddle and it’s copper rivets.

Then I spotted these on evilbay…. perfect! 😎

With black flat pedals instead of the silver spds, I decided to swap the crank bolts from black to silver, think that works a bit better 😊

It’s incredibly comfortable, the Passchier bars are superb, combined with the Ergon grips it’s super-plush!
Was a little dubious/apprehensive about them but needn’t have been, steering is still sharp, but they just soak up all the chatter. No use whatsoever for anything gnarly you’d tackle on a full-sus, but for the kind of trail riding I do they’re perfect.

Final stop was outside the Castle, and talking of stopping…. the Magura brakes are mega!

First time I’ve ever bought/used Magura brakes and the power out the box is great, very impressed as the XTR 4 pots I've used previously were initially pretty disappointing. I imagine as they bed-in they’ll only get better too, so win-win!

The other note-worthy observation was how nice flat pedals are! I’ve used spds forever for mountain biking, don’t and haven't used flat pedals until now (other than on an old work bike which doesn’t count) yet felt very safe with these. Will keep using them and see if they help my knee pain any, would be interesting to try them on the fatty with its wider BB too. 🤔

I do like this bike. I was tempted by the remaining mk5 frames that went up the stooge site, but just wasn't quick enough.

Tell us more about the bars - why did you choose them? how do they compare to alloy/carbon? do you get splinters? that sort of thing.

Cheers slackboy!

1. I’m not a suspension fork fan
2. I much prefer rigid bikes
3. I get numb hands/fingers after a while so have been looking for solutions
4. Saw these and just loved how they look, they are beautifully finished
5. The latest ‘Dream Build’ on YouTube that I watched last night of the Gritspoke has a pair fitted so they must be cool!

this pretty much sums it up for me…

as for comparisons…. they don’t compare to anything I’ve used before so that’s pretty difficult.

I’ve used Jones carbon loops, Thomson carbon, Thomson titanium, Answer Protaper 20/20 carbon, Enve carbon, Whisky Milhouse etc

Out of those my favourites would be the 20/20, followed by the Milhouse. I just didnt get on with the Jones, the other carbons were ok and the most disappointing was the Thomson Ti which was mega-stiff and unforgiving!

And no, no splinters! 😂

Is there no mud anywhere or are you cleaning your bike for the photos?! Doesn't look like a drop of mud even on the tyres on any of the pictures 🤣
