It's a real puzzle.I'd say it's not a 97 Kilauea because of the cable routing,they didn't route the rear mech cable down the seatstay.
Definitley not a '96 or '97, but the '98 Kilauea had that cable routing, so I'd guess that is what this frame is (although visually I suppose it could also be an Explosif or Caldera which had the same drop-outs). They are really good frames, my daily rider is a '98. The paint job looks good, although maybe not on the masking of some of the stars in the close up shots. The stickers are obviously repro and all wrong. It has the 853 that should go on the Explosif but also looks like it has a "Kona Chromoly" decal that would have been on the lower end frames (like Caldera and Cinder Cone).I'd say it's not a 97 Kilauea because of the cable routing,they didn't route the rear mech cable down the seatstay but a 98 Hei Hei did.
