Star fangle but V.S. hope head doctor for secure headset

Re:

Just an update
I bought a Hope Head Doctor but that didn’t arrive so I bought a star nut and a Park Tools TNS4 tool
The tool is excellent
Screwed the Star nut on
- inserted in the tube
Knocked in with a mallet - took all of 2 minutes
Straightened and Secured the stem - tightened the cap/star nut then tightened the stem

Perfect - now absolutely no play - regardless of the ride

thanks for all the advice - and it turns out the star nut is probably the simplest and best - just need the tool to put it in properly

Personally I've moved over to using
that's sort of thing, under various names.
work really well in Aluminium steerers too (retro of course, need to size down as you do star nuts).
Way, element, just an Allen key needed.

I think I may have seen one of those - I guess less hassle than a star nut at removing and for re-use

I had the FSA one and That particular one wasn’t very good.

Re:

with these ones, you just slide in, turn the Allen key and preload the headset. tighten the stem and job done.
take it out if you're done need it, stick batteries or something cool in there instead.
