so the F1 season kicks off tomorrow!

Hopefully this year should a classic, Button seems to have come alive since his brawn days. His driving reminds me of DC's very smooth and accurate. Also a big Webber fan as he dosent seem to hold back in saying what he thinks.

Graham Hill, James Hunt, Ayrton Senna. I watched all the greats through all the seasons as my passion, was chipped at year by year by the money and the lawyers. The cars became safe, which was wonderful but so did the circuits, the adverts interrupted, tactics overtook talent, rain stopped races, sponsorship became more important than the cars, pay-per-view arrived.
I can't be phukking bothered.

I'm gutted that Sky have bought the rights to all of the live coverage, and that the BBC will only get a few live races. Jake Humphrey was on The One Show the other night trying to promote the highlights programmes but it's just rubbish. You could tell that he thought it was a proper letdown.

I don't have Sky, and I can't get it either as my landlord won't allow us to stick a dish up. I've got Virgin Media and they want to charge an extra £22.50 each month on top of my existing bill, just so I can get the Sky Sports F1 Channel (you have to subscribe to all of the Sky Sports channels in order to be able to get it)... If I subscribed to Virgin's Sky Sports package on top of my current one, I'd end up paying about a fiver more for everything than if I moved over to Sky and took out a full package!

I'm sorry, but as much as I love F1, I'm not paying that much just to watch it live.

My other option is to find someone with Sky, who has a Sky Go account, and use their login details to watch it online. Not sure if the live F1 races would be streamed though?

im dead excited, depite the fact i cant watch all the races as sky have bullied their way into it.
Maybe a bit unfair - I'm not about to start defending Sky, but wasn't it as much about the BBC trying to reduce costs on sporting coverage with the Oympics looming?

And yes, looking forward to the season, and ever hopeful about Kimi's return. Shame things aren't looking so encouraging, right now, with Kubica driving again in F1.

I have to say, feel a bit funny about the season, really - first time I've had the prospect of there being no obvious way of watching all the races (I stopped subscribing to Sky some years back).

Having watched most of the F1 races since about 1987 I can definitely say that I think the past couple of seasons have been pretty good.
The racing is much closer and much more interesting to watch.

The introduction of regulations to reduce the influence of aerodynamics are helping in terms of placing the emphasis back on a driver's ability to overtake.
I see your point that races over the last couple of seasons have tended to be more action filled.

And I had no gripes with the "F-duct" it was sheer innovation. But DRS seems to manufactured. And although I can see the real world implications of KERS, I'm not entirely sure I find that is doing much other than adding another element of contrivedness about it all.

I like close racing, I like overtaking, I'm just not there with artificial gimmicks to achieve it - I just can't suspend disbelief and turn-off my skepticism for it.

Not really sure I like the short life of the tyres so much, either.

More mechanical grip, maybe even ground effects, less aero, would probably be a less contrived way of achieving more overtaking, than push-to-pass technologies, and tyres that go off rapidly.

I can't see the point anymore.

The fastest car nearly always wins, I'd much rather watch British touring cars.

Yep but my fave is V8 Supercars or V8 Utes 8)

Thats proper racing

You are only allowed two devices with sky go... I use my mums account and plug the laptop into the tv....

Edit... from the Sky Go page...

"The first two devices you use to watch Sky Go will be automatically registered to your Sky Go account. Registration when using Sky Go or a PC/Mac takes place the first time you play back a programme. If you’re using Sky Go on a smartphone or tablet device, you will be registered when you first sign in. If you have two devices already registered on Sky Go and try and sign in on a new device, you will be directed to the device management page.

Once you have registered two devices you’ll be able to make one change to your registered devices each calendar month; this means you can remove one of your devices and add a new one in its place."

Hmmmm. Some old guy tops the youngins in both free practices. :D . Mind you, a everyone's moaning about their passive F-duct, but Nico was less than stellar with it.

Another 2 years and they'll be pitting under full electric power. Audi's R18 e-tron and Toyota's TS030 LMP cars are already capable of it (the e-tron uses a KERS system charging capacitors to run 2 front wheel motors).
