So, like... I've got this idea for an app...

Like others have said, and you already know, you need to bring someone in. Your could approach a university, students etc as most would gladly help. Or, if it is such a promising idea then it would be easy enough to secure funding to pay for a quality programer, and ultimately a higher return.

What is the idea by the way :?: :)
Universities and students aren't interested. I've approached a few and they want money up front before they even open the door.

Quite disheartening actually...

Easy enough to secure funding for a programmer?

Even more disheartening. They won't work for free...

As I've said, I've been in touch with computer program bods and I've been to few MeetUps to test the water, but everyone in the business seems pretty insular and not willing to help.

I was expecting to meet people with an open mind, but just came across a lot of bods writing code and moaning about how much they should be getting paid, whilst sitting in coffee shops moaning about the shit coffee.

Coming from a film and TV background, at least the people I knew would get off their arse and make a short flick whilst looking for work, but when I mentioned this whilst chatting with a few programmers, they nearly keeled over in shock!

"What??? Work for free??? FFS!!!"

I made my excuses and left the premises. :|

Re:

You need two things that will help immensely.
1) A business plan
2) an investors deck (power point or similar is typical)

Both of the above help when talking to people with money. People with money come in many forms and there are even ways in which a rich person can back your App and reduce their main tax bill. IM me if you want some solid advice. 8)

Re:

If you can't get investment then learn to code. TBH it is probably easier than finding someone to fund a social gaming app - no matter how awesome the idea. You might as well get started whilst you are warming up the investors.

Bear in mind that writing native apps is very expensive and you need coders with different skills to reach iOS and Android users. Unless there are technical limitations aim for something using cross compile technology as a start. You can refactor it later once you've made some cash.

Learn C# and Xamarin or JavaScript and React Native. Get stuck in and see how far you can get. Leverage back end tools like Firebase or the AWS stack. BITD you had to do it all yourself. There are great platforms available for free to get you started.

The reason developers aren't interested is that there is too much work out there, and any developer worth their salt will have a load of their own pet projects on the go - monetising their skills or contributing to open source initiatives.

Good luck! If you really believe in it you'll find a way to make it happen. And if you don't, you won't.

One wee problem, I've got Dyscalculia and a house like a bomb site, that's getting rebuilt.

I struggled like feck to get through my Gas exam and I'm still struggling to get my electric qualifications. I've only recently been diagnosed. It now makes sense why I struggled through school, but ho-hum, I ain't got time to learn code.

That is why I need someone to help with the project.

Re:

I had an idea 4 yr ago, that I still have now. And it's an app I'd just want to use, I'm sure ut could make a lot of money too.

I still haven't developed it 4 years later.

Ive tried and failed to DIY it, so many languages and different ways to do what seems the same thing, I just don't have the time to trawl through it all. By the time I learn a bit, the next time I get a break to continue I've forgotten it.

And I'm old and my brian ain't what it used to be.

I've just downloaded Adobe XD and I'm going to wireframe in that, its real easy, though only beta, no gestures for a start.

Once I have the paper wireframe I'll try again to write 'this button needs to do that' and concentrate on 1 element.

I'll let you know in another 4 yrs if my aged mind wraps around that process.....
