Site Suggestions (and Issues) Thread

The site has always been infested with adware afaik .. I just run an add blocker.

If you have any evidence for this please share.

The site utilises standard banner adverts and affiliate links to keep the lights on.

Sorry, i haven't gathered any evidence i always run a blocker.. but if i'm at one of the laptops at work, i often see ads akin to the 'country girl' general click bait nonsense.. "Born Between 1947 and 1975 You Could Be Eligible for"... "Scientist Discovered If You Do This One Simple Trick".. "Don't Buy A Heat Pump Until You've Read This" .. and lots of Temu ads for what look like sex aids.. it's enough to make Bonnie Blue blush 😁

Is it best not to find out what the amish farmers wife might be offering?
I've already got a heat pump🙄

That's not adware, which is software you accidentally download and infest your computer without you really realising. If you have that run virus and malware scans.
If the site has any, then John really needs to know too.

It should only be basic out of the way adverts, the content will vary but John can only ask for them not to deliver it. But they are simple adverts.
They're not even intrusive like hovering over text you read or click the close to get it out of the way, randomly popping up. There are more adverts on a visit to a YouTube video or less advert in a year than opening one page of a Reach advert site, I mean live local news site.
Nothing is constantly flying in to where you want to type.

The only annoying one we had for some time was the full screen popup advert, but that seems to have gone now.
Blocking the ads on here blocks the small revenue to keep the site running.

My youtube ads, much more annoying but considerably less adult than the RB selection.
Today's was offering pics of Emma Raducanu in a bikini🙄
Usual fare is 80s photos of sam fox for some reason.
This screenshot just now:

Ok, probably just my badly chosen phrasing.. i don't use YT, well maybe once/mth if i post a music video here and it too insists that i pause my add blocker.

I brought this up years ago^ 😁

I don't mind contributing to the site.. from the perspective of someone who hasn't watched TV for 20+yrs.. i view forums as entertainment and i don't mind paying for the privilege.. but sorry that isn't going to be via add revenue.. it just ruins my browsing experience, If you msg me annually, i'll donate a small ammount via PP instead 👍

Might it be possible to set up an option of ad-free paid-for membership for those that want it?
I've got that on my classic car forum iirc. Standing order, £15/year?

It's certainly true i wouldn't want my kids to see many of the ads on here, so makes browsing a furtive activity🤣

My son seems to think I'm looking at 'RetroWife' owing to the banners! 😂

Ad free subscription could be attractive if possible.
