……I know weight questions are very subjective and ideal weights of bikes vary as to their uses, rider weights etc.......BUT!

As I built up my Saracen (link below) It was looking like it was going to be a light build but the weight I’ve ended up with is a little heavier than I imagined it would be. (I’ve been very scientific in a feels it should be lighter test! )

I think I can shed some weight with cassette, saddle, seatpost to balance out the bike a bit….. :?

What sort of weights do your steel hardtails come in at? Mines a 19’’, 853 and rigid.

Just interested/bored at work that’s all

Cheers,

Hi Mark,

I had the same thing. My 92 Explosif build weighs 10.25KG - 22.6lbs and I was expecting a little lighter. It is 18" with 7sp cassette and 1.5" slick tyres. I know I could shed a little more but there comes a point when cost out weighs, weight reduction. So I am sticking with what I have, which rides perfectly.
Its funny, with this build I knew what all the components weighed and when assembled it had gained 300grams. Does anyone out there do lightweight paint?

11/11,5 kg for me :D .... needs to be strong and stiff enough to deal with my BMI

Tyres and Tubes are allways great weight savers

Second Yo-Eddy's need to be strong enough comment. I Forgot to mention this is my commuter with rigid forks. I wouldn't dream on using 110g bars off road. They may be strong enough, but they sure don't feel it.

You're right that weight is subjective, and my idea of light [like my haircut] was fixed long ago: anything under 30lb is permissible; 24lb is world class, anything below that must be cheating or some sort of alchemy using that allyouminium stuff that I've heard about .....

My rigid Yeti FRO weighs in at about 28lbs with a T-Disc on.

My Ti-hardtail is 21.5 lbs.

So can somebody please expalin why I'm riding the Yeti at Mayhem this weekend? :?
