Silca Impero Frame Pumps

Any advice, tips, or tricks, for putting a 45 year old NOS Silca Impero frame pump in service, in particular what do you recommend for treating the leather cup seal to bring it back to life???, It's in new condition just a bit dry.
It's being assembled with the chrome steel Campagnolo pump head with new gaskets and mounted with the Campagnolo umbrella frame fitting.

Oil will do it just fine. See this link on how to make a new one. Though the link is for airguns, the principle remains the same. http://www.pyramydair.com/blog/2007/12/ ... ston-seal/

Hi mdvineng,
Thanks for that link, lots of good information in there. I tend to overthink solutions to problems, my main concern was compatability issues with oil and the plastic cylinder the leather cup seal runs in. At this point I think I will just soak the seal it in a non-synthetic 30wt motor oil for a day or two and call it done.

If memory serves they weren't the most efficient pumps.....looked good on the frame with no clips though :)

Hi Shawn,
This pump is part of a 1975 (ish) weight weenie build. It's one of those things where there were other pumps that worked better but I can't think of one that weighed less. I guess it's more of a frame ornament really. The goal here is to have a Silca that "works" as a backup to CO2 cartridges I normally carry.

Ohhh... 1975 is smack in the middle of my era :) any pics?

Way back in those days I used a bluemels at home with a campag adapter, wheel off the bike, pump pressed against a wall with the wheel dangling off the pump.....trying to get the tub rock hard. :)

In the bike shop we had a Kinsmann

Silca frame pumps were what we rode with if we punctured on the road. :)

Hi Shaun,
I have a preview for you, a NOS 1975 Teledyne Titan money pit special. It's been a bit of a pain to build because I keep changing the components and not liking what i've done. Like any good mid 70's bike it's going to be built with parts from everywhere and everybody, with a minimum of Campagnolo because that's just to easy. The French content keeps going up though...

And this is the first cut components for the Titan, a lot of this has changed.
