Lots of Pennine frames were painted like this. It was Johnny Mapplebeck's wife who did it. A variety of mountain or seascape scenes, can't say whether every one was totally different or whether she just followed a theme. I also can't say that I've ever seen any other builders do the same or even similar.
Now I'm gutted I didn't get any art work but this is a later frame built in 95 I actually went to Pennine when I lived in Bradford and this was hanging on the wall collecting dust I had to lower the brake bridge so I could use the skeleton brakes still its been busy over these hols hence the dirt
Also, if you look under the heading of 'Classic Builders' and then the several Pennine machines in there, you will find several examples of the seatstay art.
there's a Pennine on ebay at the moment with alpine scene painted on the stay. It's also being advertised by some who can't spell Pennine so you might get a bargain.
it's pick up only from Bolton £220 or best offer. the photos are the most informative but it looks in reasonable condition, 5 or 6 speed (?), mafac brakes, stronglight crank and what looks like a campag bar-end shifter.

this thread was on a long time ago now,but i still have the frame and forks although now it has no paint now.
it took an absolute eternity to get the paint off as underneath, the original paint was stove enamel.
now its a blank canvas im considering a respray, but who should i turn to. ive heard good things about mercian and there work, or should i take it back home to bradford.
i cant part with this until its back to former glory as i feel i owe it to the frame and the time i spent not only the hunt to find its heritage, but the time i spent getting it where it is today
An old thread but still a gem, even skimming back through to jog the memory.
As for resprays, I have been watching Ellis Briggs work on facebook and they have been doing some really lovely work. Maybe have a look if your on facebook, and I am sure their homepage would show them.
I looked just the other night at the purple frameset that Hilary Stone has, tempted but it's a bit big I think. Every time I see one now the first thing I check is the top of the seatstay.
