I've always found STX-RC very under rated.Perhaps the best value for money shimano groupo IMO.

I had quite a bit of STX-RC stuff for a very long time and I agree - it was very nice looking (I think the "-RC" part was really just the nice chromica finish wasn't it?), light enough and very long lasting.

The only fly in the ointment was the odd chainring setup... if it wasn't for that I'd still be using the chainset, it was a whole lot more classy looking and lighter than the modern Deore one it was replaced with :-(

There you go, I quite liked the chainset. The 4 arm one that is.Looked OK and rings lasted well.Removable spider meant to could change the outer easily.Mechs were fine as well.

Edit.. I see you're speaking about MC40, and I'm talking about MC36...

Yeah, I liked it fine too, for at least a decade until the rings were so worn that they were completely unusable (unless you wanted to saw wood or something!) and I found it impossible to get new rings.

I know there was a conversion thingy available at one time (made by Middleburn?) but by then it wasn't really worth the cost and hassle of sourcing one of those plus rings.
