Here is a question, if you had collected locally would you have added the cost of fuel? Can easily rack up £5-£10 these days on a local journey. Then of course there is the cost of your own time. If the answer is no then the cost of shipping shouldn't be added to the next sale.

Why not..? So long as the sale price is still fair I don't see a problem. The wheels still sold for a good deal less than they're worth. How the price is made up is irrelevant surely, so long as the buyer is getting a good deal (which they most definitely did) and the seller is getting a good price?

do what you want and don't be so bothered by what others say. in the end, you'll get a buyer if the price is right, regardless of what you paid. from what i can tell, you're being fair about how you do your transactions. if you add in shipping costs to your prices, so be it. you spent the money, i don't see no crime in trying to recup what you spent. talk of voodoo economics is bull, no one is gonna pay more than it's worth unless they're crazy… and that's what the ebay madness thread is for. :roll:

Right, if people actually read the original sale thread rather than jumping on the bandwagon, they'd see that my initial comment was actually a response to a question from the OP. At no time did I accuse Barney of profiteering or suggest that he was out of order, I merely noted that the increase in price may be the reason that people weren't biting. Indeed, the mismatched pair of wheels that keep getting referenced are mine and they're for sale at £125. Although I have to say that this price was based on the information in Barney's thread that his wheels were worth £150+.

My view is the same as Chris's, ironically the very first reply to this thread...

Personally I think you shouldn't pass on your earlier postage costs to the next owner regardless of how good the price of the item. The postage part of the deal is between you and the original seller and you should take that cost on the chin regardless of if you sell them a week later or a year down the line.

I considered Retrobike to be a 'club' and its members to be friends and I have traded as such in the past. It's becoming increasingly clear in recent months that many now view it as a business, and the members here, just customers to be exploited. Shame.

I can't help but whole-heartedly agree with your comments above. You can say what you like about free market and capitalism, but I can't help agreeing with Russell - when I read the perspective of some (I say that with emphasis, because it's clearly not all - after all, there's many that without fanfare or plaudit, give out plenty as karma), here, I think they could just as easily be talking about ebay, rather than something that's supposedly more a community. As you say - shame, really.
