Damnit.... bloody IE fail... losy my post  edit... ah, mod moved it, thats why

Basically, I waffled on about an RB member recently sending me some Suntour levers that he won on ebay, stating that "My needs were greater than his", and I was happy to pay to cover his additional costs of sending them on to me. Basically thats was happened here... and there's nothing wrong with that

There are sadly quite a few whingers and pedants on here, that potentially spoil it for everyone else, however there are also plenty of people who, were they to live more locally to us, I am sure that we would be honoured to call them genuine friends... Its just that its human nature tends to focus on the neagtive experiences rather than the positive ones

Anyway, the wheels are sold now, so lets just all chill the f*** out and get back to work

All business is profiteering, if its not then you must be giving stuff away.

Nothing wrong with how you are going about your 'business'.

Some folk seem to want to enjoy the benefits of a market economy without paying for it.

Reselling something they bought for a small profit = nice
Buying something at slightly more = rip-off.

If they wanted it so much the last time, why didn't they simply cough up?

Lots of MTB's in North Korea...not.

The only thing I see an issue with is the voodoo economics you're using. If you buy something for £75 and pay £10 for shipping, you paid £75 for the item. How you got it to your door, whether you contracted the RAF to pick it up with a Harrier or walked to the guy's house and back with it is irrelevant. Let's use your false scale and say you paid £85 for the wheels, and want your money back plus shipping. The next guy buys the wheels for £100. He snaps the head tube of the frame he put the wheels on and decides to sell the wheels for what he "paid" for them and charges £100 plus shipping. The wheels change hands a couple of more times, maybe going to the mainland and back, and all of a sudden they're "worth" £300. Like I said. Voodoo economics.

I'm glad some of you boys aren't into classic VW's, as I have stories of flipping that would make your toes curl!

The last one was just a few months ago. A car that was loaded onto a trailor somewhere in the midlands at 6k and was taken back off the trailor an hour later costing 20k.

I can't name names or cars, as I would be in trouble.... but that's not a bad return.

Not totally right, the wheels will always top out at some point and yes at least one of the buyers is going to suffer but as long as they are still well within the region that someone will pay for them then it is fine. If they are too much then they simply won't sell.

random example:
Someone on retrobike in uk sells a nos xtr front mech for £45 posted
Someone on retrobike in us sells a nos xtr front mech for £35 plus £10 extra for international postage

To me (being based in the uk) the value is £45 despite the £3 postage it would cost here. To someone in the US it is probably £35 but not the £42 offered by the UK seller. Who is right?

The buying of retro parts is totally subjective on the price so value is always perceived.

Voodoo economics is by summing up the costs and expecting people to pay it. Take a look at a Marin Bear Valley in the sales area. The seller has reasonable added up all he spent on it...it's just that whole bikes always go for less than the sum of the parts.

One ma's junk is somebody else's indispensable spare part.

In the end, things are worth what people will pay for them. End of.

What its worth is what its worth they are still cheaper than average for that wheel set. Barney makes a pint the buyer is getting a good deal everyones happy. This has only arisen cos of barneys honesty. I recently had an air rifle for sale I sold it at a bargain price around £20 cheaper than normal, the buyers well happy with his bargain im well happy cos i made a few quid out of it. Everyones a winner.

I don't see why the original sale price is relevent.
Fair play for stating it before somebody else did but I honestly don't think it was nessesary.

If I want some wheels and there are some for sale at a price I'll pay then I'll buy them. Whilst it's annoying that the seller bought them cheaper it only the same annoying as somebody else winning the lottery.
Lucky bastards.
