Seriously,the Scots E.U. thing is like the Millennium bug.An orchestrated myth created by multi nationals/tories/self interest.It should also be noted that EVERY EU applicant over the last few years has been accepted.

This is, to be polite, very, very, VERY silly indeed.

Because

1. None of those applicants would form a precedent for, say, the Basques

2. People don't make those formal applications UNTIL SUCCESS IS GUARANTEED. Israel, Turkey and the Ukraine would love to be in the EU, but they've been effectively refused

Acession east European states economically destitute have been accepted in the last few years-Romania Poland etc and benefited hugely.

Yes: being in the EU would be good for Scotland - but Scotland doesn't get to decide. The Spanish, Germans, French and Belgians do, and they all have reasons to veto membership.

But even worse for EU membership, there is no way for Scotland to have a stable currency without a monetary union with England - which it has been refused. (And probably wouldn't work anyway: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-s ... s-27325253)

Before the Eurozone disaster, this might have been solved by letting it join the Zone, but that's now out of the question. So how does Scotland solve this problem? No one knows. Is the EU going to let Scotland join without a solution? Very, very doubtful.

It's easy to wish away technical problems like this and rant about Tories, but doing so is suicidal. Even Salmond admits that Scotland would need a monetary union - and that (rightfully, because it would involved risks for England and no benefits) has been refused. Which makes voting for Independence literally politically insane - it's a vote for a nation which its own would-be ruler says he can't rule under the only conditions a sane person would expect.

Oh god, it's this "monetary union" crap again...

Why would scotland want a monetary union, therefore taking on England's debt? A good part of the reason they're going is they're sick of England soaking up all their dosh.

No currency union doesn't stop them actually using the pound. What is westminster going to do, knock on every house in Scotland and go "can we have all your quids now, pretty please?"

Even pretty boy darling admitted it eventually.
