I'm sorry: I can't see any intelligence behind your arguments. You are claiming that because someone has made a threat they can't mean it- but this is inherently ludicrous. "That copper says he'll shoot me if I don't put the shotgun down - that means I'm completely safe. UGH!" And "Yes, mein Kaiser - invading Belgium is completely safe!" Etc.

No, you're claiming Germany and Spain are hiveminds and have a stance on Scottish independence. The reality is there's just some windbags who frown on it, and they've neither a monopoly on their nation's attitudes, nor any real sway.

It's you saying the copper will shoot me if I don't put the shotgun down. Meanwhile the copper is rolling his eyes at you because we're at a shooting range, everyone is licensed, and five minutes ago me and the copper were nattering away while we polished the bloody things.

As Voltaire had it, "We look to Scotland for all our ideas of civilization."

That was before the deep fried mars bar.

Seriously though it probably is best that there's a Yes vote. A No vote, almost certainly narrow, will lead to years of sniping and uncertainty before another referendum will have to be held.

There will be some difficulties for both sides of the border initially, and a lot of issues to be resolved, but eventually both will be fine.

I'll still go to Scotland for some holidays and I'll still want Wales to beat Scotland at rugby.

after that drubbing on March, I'll be avoiding Cardiff for a while, wrong year for a first visit!

pity Lord Snooty decline the devo max option on the ballot paper, that would have been a clear winner i think

The thing that worries me is that Scottish Independence would mean that Westminster would lose about 40 Scottish Labour' MPs. As a result the rest of the UK could be stuck with Conservative governments for decades. And single party states are seldom good for democracy.

If that happened, then Scotland would have to compete economically with an English Government that is even more focused on keeping big business happy at the expense of everyone else. A low tax, low, wage, low public spending England, where there is even more inequality. However this could also be a haven for inward investment and a magnet for Scottish businesses who want to escape from a the high spending regime that the SNP are promising.

Re:

Finally the penny drops.....
Really it's a win win for England we can stop pretending we want ships built on the Clyde and re open our dockyards.
Listening to the Scottish public many are poor and disillusioned and just want to vote yes for the hope that Mr Salmon isnt a Scottish Nigel Farage
I actually feel sorry for the Scots but it must happen or we will end up propping up not only their struggling health service ,universities and god knows what else with more bribes.
Enjoy the freedom of the National Socialists....oops that was Germany in the thirties

Re: Scottish Indepence YES or NO?

England, England, England, you do know you are keeping Wales and Northern Ireland?

Re: Re:

All those worried that Scottish Independence would cause a Tory majority in England need to calm down. I mean, who on earth would vote for the party that couldn't stop a yes vote?

It'd totally shake up everything in English politics. Tories would be seen as traitors and failures by British "patriotic" voters, and Labour would, if they have any sense, want to distance themselves from torydom by miles. We'd actually have more than one ideology to vote for.

It's actually England who's public services need Scottish money, not the other way around.

Re:

Most people wouldn't give a toss that they couldn't keep Scotland. No one really cares around here. We see it as more of an interest to what will happen if you do go it alone. Nothing more. It'll not sway any vote in any direction.

Now if they change the colour of our bins, that'd get noticed
