A friend bought a 'Sab 3' from retrospective bikes
I think it's this one http://www.retrospectivecycles.com/sab-3/
He was sold it as an early 80s frame/bike and he specifically wanted it to be L'eroica qualifying.
The company was apparently formed in 1990 but the components are very much earlier and a very similar specc'd sab3 was for sale in italy last year.

So, is the Sab3 different to a 'Sab', is it posdible the 3was an earlier incarnation or are they just 90s built 'retro' bikes dressed to replicate the look from an earlier period as per the components?

I'd say that frame is genuinely 1980s, all the fittings and the Columbus sticker point that way.
It's virtually identical to my 1986 Daccordi in terms of lugs, fittings, the shape of the fork blade and stay ends and even looks to have slightly flattened seat stays like my Daccordi.
Nice machine with an interesting GPM groupset. I love the way they just put a Gipiemme sticker on the Simplex mechs but left all the other original branding on.

Mark.

Much appreciated for that comment, but if the company was formed in 1990 would this be one that was knocked up before the official registration of the marque or made by someone else beforehand and made up with their badging?
He loves the bike and I would hate to have to tell him the frame itself was made in the style of the era as opposed to being actually made in the 80s itself, however even without the provenance of the bike I don't think anyone would be questioning it as non qualifying given the components and traditional style of frame.
