Afternoon all,

The headset saga continues....

I located the original headset which was on my old Gazelle and the chrome is rusty - not a job for polish. Are there any other options to remove the rust etc?

Richard

The chrome isn't rusty, that's the metal underneath breaking down / rusting / corroding.......surface rust can be removed with oxalates / aluminium foil etc but the chrome plate is either lifted or missing. Tange headsets are pretty cheap so new might be a better option.

Shaun,

I have just looked at similar headsets on SJS - £16.99. I wish i had done this earlier.

Thanks,

Richard

Tange Levin /Passage from about 12 quid on the bay, abit campag pista ish .......... Cheap but not to be sneezed at : :)

Tange Falcon looks a bit like the record from a few feet away.

If you own a gazelle frame you definitely need to put a campag headset on it,they are more expensive but if looked after they will last for years.

The Gazelle is from 1975 and i am putting old DA drivetrain on it with SR bars, stem and seat post. It is not a perfect frame or close but the colour is lovely.

That is a prebuild pic, it is back to frame and forks now.

LOL

Hey MR HM - you been hiding?????

Seat LOOKS fine. Untested by my arse as yet. I will update you when the bike is finished and at this rate i will be too old to ride it when it is done.
