Just thought id come here and post about my Dawes Lightning bike that i have had from new.
Bought as a Christmas present when i was 14 , i looked after this bike as this was my pride and joy back in 1984. It never went out i the rain and was kept indoors at all times.
Only issue i used to have was trying to get 1st gear which used to be a pain, had it back tot he bike dealership a few times but they could not resolve the issue.
My dad had told the bike dealer to put Suntour gears on the bike when he bought it to replace the Huret gears that was originally on the bike, and i had nothing but trouble trying to sort them out.
Anyway the bike ended up in the attic in 1993 all wrapped in black plastic bin liners and never saw daylight until a few months ago.
I was half expecting just a rusty frame but no the paintwork was mint the rims had slight dusting of rust but the tyres were shot
So i booked her into a bike repair shot to have new rims tyres new cables and the gears to be sorted. She was away 3 months had new tyres fitted but no rims as the tyres were hard to source apparently, all new cables and a new cassette on the rear wheel so changing gears is nice and smooth and first gear can be obtained easily now.
