reserve tanks

my ktm will do a whopping 30 miles after the light comes on
however from a full tank to light coming on is only 63 miles

.

My VTR1000 used to manage just 100 miles to a full tank :? about 24-26 to the gallon. Great fun to ride but I ended up having to plan my longer rides around petrol station locations.
My RGV250 was even worse, but was also the most fun i've ever had to 2 wheels.
Wish I could find a 1989/90 model NOS :D :D :D

I ran out of fuel on the M6 just south of Carnforth at 70 plus mph overtaking a caravan, not good on a single cyclinder bike with strong engine braking

I had filled my 250 MZ's tank to the brim 20 odd miles previously but the vibrations of sustained motorway work had caused the needle valve to unscrew and drop into the float chamber of the carb. Result 17 litres of unleaded had gushed out the overflow pipe all over the M6 but thankfully not over the hot exhaust thus no fireball

Amusing now but 12 years ago it was gut wrenching horror.

Managed to push it up an off ramp into a service station carpark where I rebuilt the carb with much wailing and gnashing of teeth. Nursed it home from there.

hehehehe
went out today and she rode a lot better...no loss of power on the down shift hnow....sounds differant on turn over as well....this has cheered me up a lot....

now all i have to do is learn how to do roundabouts without going aaaaarrrrgggghhhhhhh :P

Hmmm... car wise I've had over 100 miles from the 'reserve' whereas as soon as my mates vans' fuel light comes on, you have 500 yards.

That's why I go by my trip meter. I have 15L on run and another 3L on reserve. I get just over 15km/L (about the same as my 2.0L Golf) so when it hits 230 I'll turn the reserve on so as not to starve the engine at an inopportune time, then I better get gas before it hits 275.

Thats a lot more than the display tells you though.

I'm sure when the 'beep' goes (damn loud and annoying) its only 60 miles.

the most I've had from when the fuel light comes on is a further 120 miles.

so far but yet to actually run out though. It will happen, I keep leaving later and later.
