Removing Laquer from Alloy frame

OK, so the date must be some sort of Use By date and our was short dated.
I just cracked open our next box of the stuff.
Different packaging, but looks the same otherwise, new stuff dated 26/02/17.

Bit of a mystery then, maybe down to specific manufacturer's paint chemistry.
We use Tiger Coatings and Dupont polyester powdercoats.

I'll do a little test of the two batches side by side. Back in a bit....

All the best,

OK, tests done...

If anything the new stuff seems more effective, certainly thicker and clings better.
Also better result than the older stuff on some enamel paint, too.

Not sure what lacquer you must have there...something military? :D

All the best,

Re:

When i used it on my Alloy Kona it started working in about 5 mins. It went like a crackle paint finish and after about 30 mins i used wire wool and water to scrub it off.
I did need to do it 3 times as some areas were more stubborn.

Re:

It is powdercoat on shimano cranks.
I thought on the previous page you said it worked on powdercoat, or it could have been another thread I followed to get to this one?! Anyway, it hasn't even marked it!

Hmm...lots of different powders out there. Certainly works on the TGIC polyester and crosslinked urethane powders I have on my stuff. :|

Not so sure about epoxy-based powders or possibly those two-pack wet paints such as Dupont Imron. They're based on one-way chemical reactions that will be far harder to dissolve.
Could also be an acrylic powder, which tend to be better than polyesters for clear coats on their own...
Any paint chemists in the building?

All the best,
