My new project thanks to Marco!.

Team Ritchey P22

This is one of those bikes from back in the day, I used to drool over, and read lots of articles about a certain Thomas Frischknecht.

So a humble start, fitted some Blue hope hubbed wheels with Ritchey w.c.s. tyres and U.S.E. spin stix.

I have found that the hope spindle is quite tight in the drop outs, buy this I mean the width of the spindle not the length.

Re:

Lovely iconic frame there Nick 8)

Is it the actually diameter of the axle that's the problem then?

Re:

Thanks Adrian.

I need to take some better pictures!.

Yep the width of the rear dropouts holes is quite narrow. The hub fits but its a tight fit. Not sure if I could get the axle skimmed e.g. turned.

I could possibly file the dropouts a tiny bit, but seems a shame to do that.I'm talking about 1mm or so.

Also as its so tight, I'm a bit worried about the alloy binding to the logic tubeing

Memory is hazy here but this could be from the time when there were two flats on the rear axle from the use of horizontal dropouts. The dropout on this frame could be designed to accommodate the flats and the axle in the hope hubs are round. It could be just a change of axle that you need.

Carl.

Re:

Thank you Carl. I think you could be right about that.

As i said its not a width of the hub issue as that is fine, more that the axel is such a tight fit. I presume as these Ritchey logic Team P22, mostly designed as pure race frames and as such not designed for cosmetic flash, like hope hubs.

The wheels work perfectly well but its just removal of the rear wheel that is the issue!.

Re:

Lovely looking frames these, the red/white/blue looks classy. A P-21 is on my all time wishlist.
About the axle issue, I seem to have the same "problem " on my Orange Prestige frame and Hope hubs, so it's not just you :?
