Hi folks, this is my first post here, had a look about the site and find it incredible.
Anyhow, to my point.
After one too many spills ive found that the rear derailleur hanger threads have totally stripped on my '90's Mission.
My question is this...is this a steel part easily weldable or is it an alloyed part not easily welded?

Any input gratefully recieved with thanks.
Regards...Tne

Just to clarify, if its easily welded then I intend welding, dressing, drilling and re-tapping the hanger hole.

Regards, Tne.

Pretty sure the Dynatech's used titanium main tubes and steel lugs/stays etc, in any case the welding idea is'nt the best one IMHO as you may weaken the frame with the heat involved, if you take the frame to a bike shop (a proper old skool one not Halfords) or maybe even a good engineering or machine shop they will be able to install a hellicoil, this is like a threaded sleve (threaded on the outside and the inside) , the hole is drilled out and tapped and the hellicoil is screwed in, this way the threaded hole for the hanger bolt stays the standard size.

Hope this helps and try not to crash so much

Thanks for the input Jimmi.
Re the heat thing I reckon you could be right enough.
Afraid we dont have any oldskool bike shops left in fife since my cousin shut up shop so, engineers here we come.

Where did I put that Yellow Pages?

A simpler solution: http://wheelsmfg.com/content/view/502/55/
Drill out the remained of the thread, insert the nut thingy and fix rear mech to that

That's a neat thing, did'nt know you could get that :)

I'd go for that then Tnega

BTW, bit of a travel but there's Wheelcraft in Milton of Campsie and an old skool shop on Pollockshaws road in Glasgow, not that you'll need them with the above fix.

Get the bike together and join the MacRetro clan 8)

Made the phone calls and got one coming to a local shop on Tuesday.
I'll fit it myself tho...
Still means 2 days without my one and only :(

Kind regards, Tne.
