Raleigh Dynaflite SBDU 753.... 'Manager Special'

Looks like an early Colchester Student/Master.
Could be the Master as the student of this age had the gear speed change handles on top of the headstock which I used when I was at Tech College in the first year of my apprenticeship

Do I detect Modolo Kronos brake levers 👍
Yep, I think that they are a later addition. The bike at the in the workshop appears to have brake levers so probably a road version and a track version in the 1971 article...

First time I've read right through this thread, very interesting, particularly Mike Mullett's article. I've a recollection of visiting the Raleigh Head Office some time in the early/mid '80's and seeing a team bike in the foyer. Was it Zootemelk's bike?

Can't answer that one directly Ned but Raleigh did like to show off their winning machines, Jan Raas 1982 Paris Roubaix winning bike took pride and place at the SBDU's watering hole the Gardener's Inn. They were certainly very proud of their achievements..👍 TI-Raleigh_p4(Nov'82_Cycling)~3.jpg

Any update? Been enjoying the regular progress on this one.
Not much in the way of progress on the build as I've been waiting for a front hub to turn up. Originally thought I had a Campagnolo Gran Sport kicking around but after searching high & low couldn't find it. Found one minuss it's skewer on eBay for £12 before Christmas but it failed to turn up, the tracking just said returned to sender and I got a refund. Managed to find another one with it's original skewer in good condition for £8..👍
May swap out the skewer for the better looking Record version..🤔
Next job is to polish the rims and try to get my head around spoke length calculations..

For spoke lengths, theres an excel calculator whereby you input the hub make, rim make and cross pattern and it tells you what spoke lengths you need.

Picked up some Continental Grand Prix Classic tyres for £24.99 from Mantel in the Netherlands before Christmas stocking up on 50g latex tubes they were doing 5 for 4 at £10 a pop. Going to try the Supersonics on the Dynaflite, the Grand Prix Classic's are a really nice handmade tyre weighing just 220g..

In this short archive film from 1978 Raleigh Chairman and Managing Director Ian Phillips talks about the Ti Raleigh Team success in Europe and it's effect in boosting worldwide sales. Running a race team and the Specialist Bicycle Development Unit would have been a costly venture for Raleigh, it would have been Ian Phillips job to convince the board of Raleigh's parent company Tube Investments to continue funding the operation. I think because of this and the role Ian Phillips played in supporting the Specialist Bicycle Development Unit he was held in very high esteem by Gerald O'Donovan.
