Raleigh Dynaflite SBDU 753.... 'Manager Special'

A Raleigh SBDU frame popped up on eBay last week and caught my attention. It was listed as an SBDU Dynaflite frame and fork only though a Campagnolo chainset and Super Record headset were included. What really intrigued me was the final photo on the listing showing it built as a complete bike. With such a fine rare handcrafted frame surely it should be built up as a slick racing machine and not a mundane looking hub geared roadster more suited for the commute to work or Sunday pub ride. My gut feeling was this bike had been built by the Specialist Bicycle Development Unit at Ilkeston for someone very special at the Raleigh Factory and I couldn't let this opportunity pass by so after a few pints of Romsey Gold to loosen up my bidding finger I gave it a go..🍺

Looking forward to seeing it properly fitted out.
Also interested to see what it weighs when fully stripped.

Very interesting. Can't wait to see what you do with it, hard one to change I suppose if it was for a Raleigh big wig, then again it needs riding.

Wow..I won it and a good excuse to celebrate with a few more Romsey Gold's 🍺 Saturday morning the reality kicked in that I'd just bought a bike with no wheels, brakes, saddle or handlebars for 900 quid and I only had £400 cash. Thinking quickly I asked the good lady if she wanted to invest in a vintage bike before she left for work telling her it was a sound investment and far better than wasting money on handbags & shoes and she threw an envelope at me💲 Checking the seller's eBay the other components were not listed so I was really hoping that they would still be available. When the seller called later on Saturday I asked about the original components and he said I was welcome to take everything as part of the deal and arranged collection in Greenwich London for Sunday lunch time. Not been on a Motorcycle in London traffic for many years... speed cameras and 20mph speed limits everywhere it's easier and faster to get around cycling...I was glad to get out of there and hammer it down the A3 heading for home.☺ 20211114_125129.jpg 20211114_125143.jpg 20211114_163926.jpg 20211114_163937.jpg 20211114_163953.jpg 20211114_163958.jpg 20211114_163943.jpg 20211114_164005.jpg

Getting all of the original components thrown in really sweetened the deal, with a value around £400.. so a rare 753 Dynaflite frame for £500 👌

So what’s the plan? I presume it doesn’t involve a sturmey?
