Raleigh 853

Hi

Im looking to but this bike and just wondered if any body know anything about Raleigh 853 bikes.

I'm no expert in anyway, but the spec of the bike looks good as mix of Campag Chorus, Athena etc.

I know that the wheels have bulges and once I get the bike I will decide on what to do with them.

Any thoughts from anybody.

I dont have a the Raleigh number from the frame.

Do you think its the same frame?

Both stays have loads of rust under the paintwork. It needs stripping back, repairing and repainting.

I have a custom version of this frame (shot in stays, vertical drop outs, custom geo) it was even provided in this colour originally. But resprayed twice since.

I'd get a quote for a repair. They were nice quality and rode quite well in the larger sizes (smaller sizes were more like touring bikes!!), but not particularly rare or "special" frames. So i wouldn't spend that much unless it has sentimental value.

i just thought it looked like a nice bike...what do you think its worth?

it has some quite nice if vintage bits on it too..

The wheels have bulges but Im going to sell them as they are. on ebay they sell for £100 with bulges. the whole bike is £180 so if I see the wheels for £100 the bike and kit is £80.
