Afternoon All,

I recently purchased (not off of here) a pair of suspension forks.

Had excellent correspondence with the seller including pics and a detailed description.

Forks arrive and on inspection there is a score (4mm long) on one of the stanchions.

In fairness to the seller I only spotted this as a result of feeling it (its hidden by the fork brace). The score goes through the anodizing of the stanchion.

I mentioned this to the seller and he is 99% sure the score was not their prior to sending them.

In fairness to the seller its in an obscure place that could not be seen in the original pics but the stanchions were described as perfect.

The seller is as miffed as I am and has suggested either using nail polish to fill the score ( a known remedy) or run them as they are.

Neither option I am keen on & the forks were quite expensive.

I paid by std PP and not GIFT so I guess I could dispute it but I have this horrible feeling even mentioning this to the seller.

Any suggestions?

Very difficult one.
If you didn't notice the damage within a few days I'd say you ought to bite the bullet - it could have happened whilst stored at yours - or at least that could be his defence.

If you discovered it right away you could rightfully chase the claim, you bought them as perfect and they are not.

Forks arrived Monday.

I notified the seller immediately that they had arrived but I hadn't had a chance to check them. They remained boxed until today.

No options for the score to have happened here - I don't honestly know how it could have happened full stop given its location :?

If he is fully aware that the damage could not have happened at your end, he must accept that it went unnoticed by him.
Presumably you paid a premium for minty mint forks?

Well, if you did, they aren't.

Try to negotiate an out of court settlement with the seller (bit of a refund or return or whatever would make you cheery), if he's obstructive inform him that you will have no alternative but to raise a paypal claim.

A lot depends on how much this damage means to you matey..

I paid toward the top of the spectrum fro the forks - they had been recently serviced etc.

Not sure how a partial refund etc would help either party :?

Gonna hand fire and see how it goes with the seller.

He is a decent chap so hopefully something amicable can happen.

If you start a PayPal dispute or claim, chances of anythin amicable will be anywhere between "very small" and "non-existant".

This happened to me, I bought some z1's just serviced like new blah blah, on first glance they were mint but I didn't fit them for a while and when I did the bushings were fubar, I will always check forks thoroughly now when I buy them, I could of caused a scene but because it was'nt straight away I started to chew the lead.
There still sat there with dead bushings

Are replacement stanchion/crown/steerer assemblies available?

If so, would it be possible to get a set, and agree a partial refund with the seller to cover this additional cost?

Just my 2p.

I've been buying and selling stuff like crazy not bike related and very rarely had suprises. However as soon as I started this and the bike stuff started to come in I couldn't believe how much junk was being sold as 'mint'. Over enthusiastic descriptions seem to be par for the course.

I bought something NOS for a lot of money recently and it has two small 1mm paint chips on it, bit annoyed at first but that is just how it is. Could be anybodys fault or unnoticed. I just weigh that feeling against the packages I've opened and wanted to punch someone because of the bad condition.

I'm super fussy too but just get over the OCD and leave it be, fit em and be happy they are not worse because there is a lot of photogenic tat out there
