Possible redundancies at work - bad times

My ex wife is local authority and they have been advised redundancies per unti are inevitable even though they are short staffed. I think it's a bit unfair yo blame the coalition as they didn't cause the mess but are trying just to sort it out.

That said the biggest thing is the pressure you put on yourself with worry, understandable I know but what ever decisions that are being made are unlikely to change by you making yourself ill.

as mentioned, have a look at your finances..if the poo does hit then fan get straight into the citizens advice and shows debts vs income etc..might cut you a lot of slack. Also get in with the unemployment, they will not only give you some pennies but could also helps with lowering council tax these amounts will then help when sorting out your debtors

I have my fingers crossed you'll be ok

Good advice to secure your assets/liabilities against creditors as much as possible. As mortgages are most peoples biggest liability, the government has put rules in place for most lenders to be flexible, repossessions are not so easy to invoke now.

Document everything, if you can prove you not a long term risk to your creditors you should be fine. Might help:

Don't despair it may not happen, but plan ahead: stay positive, be proactive/motivated, budget, polish your CV, keep your eyes open and look around for a something now. Redundancy will float your finances for a while. One door closes and all that....

I think there is tough times ahead for all of us.
But I hope it all works out for you.

Me and the wife moved from Wales last year to get away from a weaker job market....both being made redundant there..........had to accept that these days you have to go with the flow a bit.......both been with agencies that have a lot of work on.....due to laying full time people off !!! agencies have a lot of work to offer...........it pays the bills............but everyone I talk to at the moment in their early 40's 50's are saying they have never had to work so hard for such low pay...........it seems we ( the peeps i mention) all were earning much more 15 years ago or so...........wish i'd saved me pennies :?

On the up side I can't be bothered worrying too much now.been through a lot and always had a roof over our heads and food on the table. If things got too bad I'd buy a good tent and go walk about, grabbing food from the back of shops and stuff or do a forrest gump !

Bud,
just reading your thread and all the other members advice, which i think is simple and sound advice. Firstly you have acknowledged that you MIGHT be made redundant. I would first start either saving more if you can each month, or just get rid of all the little drips £30 here..£40 there. If you have credit card balances try and get it on to balance transfer 0%. They are available. Shopping wise Mrs ernie discovered lidl and aldi about 5 years ago..never looked back. You do get the odd food snob, i have a few at work  ..the down side to these shops is you cant always do a full shop.I understand that none of this might not help you..i/we dont know what financial commiments you have etc. But I hope this has helped, along with all in the input/advice from all the lads on this thread.

Mrs ernie got laid off from a part-time job in august..that gave her 18 hours a week..got the phone call whilst on holiday..nice  , she has manged to get work ,only 10 hours a week, sometimes she gets more..a bit famin and feed at times

I hope all works out for you bud..honestly i do

Ernie
