PS - still amazed at the way these guys operate and hope you get it all sorted! Do the scrapyards just buy the metal, no questions asked?????

I guess so.

There was a House of Horrors (or similar) program on a month or so back where they went undercover weighing stuff in. They took street signs, memorials, you name it it went in no questions asked!!

Stop it you lot you'll have me welling up  seriously though Thankyou so much to everyone whose offered help either on here or through the pms I've had :) it really does restore your faith in human nature :D

I still can't quite believe this but my insurance company have so far said  and I quote word for word  " No problem, if you own them and they were there on a temporary basis only your insured up to £1000 per bike

So from not getting anything yesterday thats just a bit of a result :) not sure how its going to work and I'll believe it when I see it  but on the whole I'm a lot happier today

Plus the Cinder cone build has started which is enough to cheer anyone up as its going to be VERY!! pretty even if I do say so myself :)

Excellent news re: the insurance, no compensation for all the grief etc etc and maybe some bikes are irreplaceable, BUT, you can start over if they pay out. Excellent...hope it sorts out for you.

Can you tell us who your insurance company is and whether you have the bikes listed seperately, or are they just under general contents. If they do pay out I for one want to change to them!

Unbelievable! Have just read the whole thread and can only echo what everyone else has said. There seem to be more and more scruffy flatbeds slowly cruising the streets these days. I went out on the road bike this week and nearly had the accident of my life. Someone had obviously driven down the country road and removed every gully and drain cover, thrown them onto the back of a van and cheerfully driven off to weigh them in.

The dealers receiving obviously stolen metal have to be closed immediately. The scum driving the vans will no doubt say, "I just found it Guv." No such excuse for the dealer.

I'm going to beef up security on the garage.

Disturbing re scrap values...

Similar thing happened to me - used to live in a flat with the main bike kept upstairs with the rebuilds/ bits in the driveway (dead end, no one needed to go up there). Never any trouble.

Got a nice new shed delvered - everything locked up nicely - all tidied away. Delivery driver just a bit too interested though....

That weekend everything that wasnt bolted down - knicked
'96 Kona Kiluea, GT Zaskar, Bitsa bike, Rockshox, everything.

Found a scummy riding my Zaskar a year later (with new wheels) and politely took it back.

Hope you get it sorted.

Well funny you should say that  I was having this conversation with a few of my mates and they've all been enticed by cheapo insurance deals available online and found to their cost that bikes aren't covered at all on most of them

Whereas I kept my policy I took out with my mortgage with the building society  which is admitedly more expensive but has all my bikes listed seperately and with agreed value :)

Plus as a bonus which admitedly I was unaware of is that their still insured whilst away from the premises but to a maximum value of £1000 :) and from conversations with them today they have no problem paying out for all of the bikes :)
