Okay then i'm with you on your main point and i hope you didn't think i was being a tad harsh so what colour brake levers are goingon because if you've got some in silver then that flash of silver will blend in better if not then no worries as you quite rightly say she is just happy with the main colour being her fav so maybe some pink hand grips next to enhance the pink frame a bit more ..

Course not. Im not caring much what it's going to look like as long as shes happy with it then its worth my while. Of course i have to upgrade a few parts though, thats just my nature. Im sticking with the levers/shifters from the silver bike on the first page (yeah they're silver) They're some sort of cheap shimano-esque units, acera maybe..? But they work, and ive spent enough on this bike as it is so they can stay :)

Sean

That's good as i have a bad habit of being a bit blunt at times  .

Well it's good your using some parts otherwise the 1st bike would just of been a waste of money any how i think you'll find the groupset on the powertrax is Shimano Alivio which is the cheapest groupset but should be upto the job unless your girlfriend decides to get more serious with her riding later on but i have used Alivio in the past and for what it is i was quite happy with it for pootling about on and going to work and back home so you shouldn't have any issues with it ..

I have the same problem, lets just say ive been at the centre of an argument or two on this forum in the past

The bike itself cost £60 and i sold the ritchey megabites for a tenner. Parts off it that are getting used are the wheels, cassette, shifter/levers, headset, front meach, saddle and seatpost. That lot would be about £50 to buy 2nd hand i reckon. Ive bought some polished DX cranks and rear mech for the bike as well, which should instantly make it look better

Well i've apologised a few times over the last 12months after putting my foot in it  so i may of broken your record already  ..

Seem's like you've done some good deals then mate 8) so it's good to know your not out of pocket on that score then ;) ..

Well your still re using quite a few parts which is always great to see
and the DX rear mech and cranks will look really good fitted and your girl friend will get alot of use out of them too as their pretty durable parts so your girl friend will really appreciate that ..

Any way i'm looking forward to seeing your next update which i suspect won't be until you've sorted the dreaded bb out ..

Re:

Its been a slow progress again... This bike sits far down the list behind other projects, but its getting there :D The BB issue is finally sorted as well so the end is near. I couldnt put those nasty looking cranks back on, so ive bought DX cranks and matching rear derailleur. the bottle cage was purple which looked tacky against the pink so i dipped it in caustic soda and stripped it silver. i think the mix of black/silver parts goes really well together...

Re: PINK '95 Saracen Powertrax for my girlfriend

Well i never this is suddenly looking the part as the choice of DX cranks and rear mech make a heck of a difference to the overall look " Awesome" and my 1st oppinion regards that flash of silver under the handle bar stem is no longer warranted ..

Yeah, it all matches quite nicely now. I did worry this was a waste of decent shimano parts because its a bit of a franken bike and my girlfriend wont know the difference. But im liking how its looking, they transform the bike. Cranks need a new middle chainring though

Yes it's amazing what a difference a couple of parts can make and it's all coming together very nicely and i wouldn't consider it as a franken bike any more as for that chain ring i'm pretty sure you'll manage to find a replacement given a bit of time but who knows you may just fall lucky sooner rather than later mate ;) ..

Re:

i got around to finishing this bike last week, here are some pictures 8)

these STI's came off the initial 'donor bike' nothing special but they're functional

Of course i had a little ride on it, i got a couple funny looks but never mind  i like how bright the pink shines in the daylight...
