PINK '95 Saracen Powertrax for my girlfriend: FINISHED

Re:

People like activities because that activity provides them with pleasurable moments and experiences, and memories. Merely painting a bike frame to suit a person's desired color won't induce that person to enjoy a long-term program of using that bike, if the actual experience of cycling doesn't harmonize with her idea of a good time.

Besides making the bike look the way she wants, you've got to make sure that the experience of going riding measures up to her perspective of what a pleasurable experience/good time should be. (ie: If she hates getting wet/cold and dirty, deffo don't take her riding on a rainy day).

ps: bike's looking great!

Re: PINK Saracen for my girlfriend: Rolling Chassis page 6

Good man ;) and sorry but i can't help out with the bb and it's annoying that the one bought can't have the fixed cup removed from the drive side and refitted on the none drive as that would of sorted it out nicely but good luck any way getting it sorted as some one must have one spare ..

Re:

Thanks for delving into the psychology of a cyclist for us :D I understand what you mean though. Shes asked me to get the bike finished by next monday... I better get a move on

Re:

So the fat saddle has returned, yes i know its ugly but ive been given strict orders not to change it. I have to say though it is very comfy, i might have to get one for myself

ive fitted the shortest adjustable stem i could find in its highest position with an ahead adapter, and shes can have the old raceface downhill bars from my zaskar to make the front high up and leisurely

Re: PINK '95 Saracen Powertrax for my girlfriend

That certainly looks weird but comfort is the order of the day so as long as she likes it then that's the important thing but i'd have to do somthing about that silver between the headset and bar stem as it just looks out of place so i'd put a few black spacer washers on or bar tape it as it will enhance the look of it without the silver showing ..

Re:

But then the seatpost would look out of place and id have to buy a black one!

I know its becoming a bit of a frankenstein bike but Comfort for her is all that matters, she wont care about a small flash of silver under the stem, she'll be far too dazzled by the fact that her bikes pink

Okay then i'm with you on your main point and i hope you didn't think i was being a tad harsh so what colour brake levers are goingon because if you've got some in silver then that flash of silver will blend in better if not then no worries as you quite rightly say she is just happy with the main colour being her fav so maybe some pink hand grips next to enhance the pink frame a bit more ..

Course not. Im not caring much what it's going to look like as long as shes happy with it then its worth my while. Of course i have to upgrade a few parts though, thats just my nature. Im sticking with the levers/shifters from the silver bike on the first page (yeah they're silver) They're some sort of cheap shimano-esque units, acera maybe..? But they work, and ive spent enough on this bike as it is so they can stay :)

Re:

The silver doesn't bother me, but I do quite like to mix it up... As you say it matches the seatpost, and as Muddy Paw pointed out if there's a bit more silver going on then it'll be less of a sore thumb...

The saddle is horrible though... sad how lovely ladies' bottoms often require such ugly saddles.

My missus has a similar saddle to this: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/selle-italia-wo ... ow-saddle/

It looks completely out of place on her '50s Phillips but she won't let me change it and I respect her for that. Apparently very comfy - actually I've found it pretty good too when I've ridden her bike.

That's good as i have a bad habit of being a bit blunt at times  .

Well it's good your using some parts otherwise the 1st bike would just of been a waste of money any how i think you'll find the groupset on the powertrax is Shimano Alivio which is the cheapest groupset but should be upto the job unless your girlfriend decides to get more serious with her riding later on but i have used Alivio in the past and for what it is i was quite happy with it for pootling about on and going to work and back home so you shouldn't have any issues with it ..
