I've got a nickel plated tange CB frameset from Falcon Group around the same period looks almost identical inc 5 tube fork.
Taiwanese I imagine?

Aha, that's sort of what I was guessing. No sticker saying what the tubing is unfortunately. I think I will pass it on to my mate in London, it will make a nice little commuter with its aubergine frame!

I'm going to guess 1995 with the STX rear mech and the 5s in the frame number.

Flick the tubes with your fingernail
Tange mtb has a particular ring.
I bet it doesn't sound like an aubergine.
