pardon me aged "braine/memory" but what annum hast thee been able to determine for Herr Den Beste?
Not with 100% certainty. The Super Sport model was in production from '61 to '71.
This DBS from 1967 shown here
http://www.cykelhobby.com/dbs competition.html has very similar frame number (SN.2999586, mine is SN.2926716), so I would say, based on the first two numbers, that it is from about the same year.
This one, supposedly from 1970, SN.3562347

Edit. Now with 100% certainty.
I found a website that has yearly serial numbers and production numbers for all DBS/Øglænd frames manufactured between 1930 and 1998 by Jonas Øglænd AS in Sandnes, Norway. The SN is really just the number of total production by then. And my one is, according to the site, from 1967.
Original components to the bike were the UnicaNitor saddle, Weinmann Vainqueur 610/750 red label brakes, Atom pedals, the Nisi/Maillard 700 wheels (from '73?), first iteration Campagnolo Strada 144bcd cranks, NR BB with flat surface DS cup, and the last version Gran Sport RD.
The Titan seatpost maybe had a date stamp, I'll look.
No information to be found on the Weinmanns. Red label, but no "999". Gray/brown pushings and "U" shaped centering steel between the brake arms. Need to look if those have a date stamp.
spindle -
or the three plateau, if using SPECTA the model would be a Nr. 374, if using Verot the model would be the Nr. 125
SPECTA also offered the odd Nr. 373 which is something of a "tweener" length - can be employed as a long double or as a short triple
The spindle I used was asymmetric and leaves maybe 4-5mm of air between the inside of the inner ring and the chainstay. I'll maybe take it apart and see if the longer side went to the NDS by mistake and measure the lenght from the DS to the center of the spindle (minus 2-3mm) to see what what the shortest lenght for that crank/frame is.
Herr DBS's OEM cable casing was silver, you would want the special small diameter silver casing for the Huret gear ensemble
Found some silver housing I had.
The typical vintage 4mm wound bare metal casing or coated ones with checkered texture and raised lines?
P3 brinneling -
you could mark the two pressed in head tube races and their seats with a pen or crayon, remove them and then remount a half ball thickness away
this will reduce the ratcheted feel of the mechanism
Thanks for the advice!
