Currently working on Jerky's previously gold and black kitted F5. Eye catching machine that was, but wasn't really my vision so totally stripped and shall rise again how I'd like it.
Managed to bag a load of NOS or near mint M970 parts that I think will look nice on it, so not a true retro build by any means.
Got some RC36 EVO's Saturday to fit which are currently in bits being cleaned and decalled with the same period logo as the frame. Going with a very limited mono chrome colour scheme, but a few discrete splashes or red to match the Racing logo.
Looking for a set of suitable wheels that would go well with the build and an M972 rear mech if anyone can help. Mint of course :xmas-cool:
More pics to come as I get on with it!!

Re:

Bit slow going, but an update never the less.
The M970 kit really does look nice, especially the V's which are like hens teeth to get hold of so am pleased to be able to use them.
I know its not true retro but just goes to show how ahead of time the frame was that it can carry the look off no problem in my view.
Forks are the later Evo type RC36's, but I had some older style decals so slapped them on there to match the frame.
Only issue encountered so far was a slightly bent mech hanger, now sorted care of some gentle hammering. Wheels are just temporary till I can get something tasty looking.

Re:

Very nice - that frame is certainly on my bike wish list.
On my Marin Team Issue I'm going for a similar retro/modern mix and silver/black/red theme!
I want to complement a great retro frame with the lightest/prettiest parts - from whatever era!

Re:

Finished!
Pretty pleased I must say, but might swap out forks for some late RC30's if I can find a very nice pair and change the decals like I have done with the EVO's.
Also couldn't get on with the narrow RC130's so ditched those for something more comfortable. I'm more Mr Tickle than T Rex so feels much nicer to ride.

Re:

Looks mighty fine.

Why did pace put the brake at the back if the fork? ... where it is unprotected by the forks from mud flung by the wheel.

With the clamp on bosses is it pissible to put thr brakes at the front?

I think it was because that is the direction of the force being applied due to wheel rotation, so made the entire system more resistant to flex & caliper's will be forced in towards bosses, not outwards towards bolt. Maybe :-s
I suppose you could swap the bosses around. I'm not a big fan of rear facing ones to be honest, but it is the Pace way so going with it.

Nice build - I covet your Hope red annodised QRs 8)
Yes, the brakes are on the rear because of the rotational forces (acc. to Pace)

Pissible?
