P2 and Pace RC31 forks

Anybody who have ridden both steel P2's and Pace RC31 carbon rigid forks and would like to know what is your views on these forks please?

I have been told that Pace carbon rigid is more flexy and softer on your hands and wrists when riding off road than the P2's. Are these very strong compare to P2's?

I am 50/50 about buying Pace forks for the 96 Kona Cindercone but dunno if it will suit the frame, I know P2's is the best steel rigid forks out there.

I rode P2`s, Pace RC30 steel forks and RC31 carbons. the 31`s were the most forgiving seemed to take a little of the trail buzz out. The legs from memory are mounted against rubber O rings below the crown which is supposed to soften the ride a little bit.

Mine were the very early 2001 type, not sure about later type but wish I`d kept mine, I`m on the lookout for a pair too.

I dont think you can get them new as I looked everywhere for them with no luck, most of them are used tend to be on ebay atm.

I had a pair on my old grey 94 cindercone, they were great, I run with disc ( I know you hate em). Make sure you go for the 420mm version if possible as they do a 440mm which is corrected for 100mm suspension geometry.

At 1st they do feel very light and flexy but are a great fork. I think they would work better with v brakes as the mount is nearer the top of the crown and will not flex as much as a disc bake does under braking.

I used this particular bike on the road and was very quick and absorbing when running 100 psi

havnt ridden project2s for many years so cant give a direct comparison but my 31s ( 2005 ) flex like buggery with a disc :?

you can see the wheel dive under you while braking hard

but i havnt heard of any snapping so it can be much of a problem

seem to be stiff in the turns and weigh fook all

Thank you James for the info and photo, it's the first I have seen a Pace carbon rigid forks on steel Kona, I think it does looked good, yes def will run with v-brakes, disc's doesnt do anything for me. I will try the P2's first and will decided afterwards if to go for Pace.

I run a completely stock Explosif with P2's and a Titanium hardtail wit the Pace RC31 and V's, both are '92. Compared to my modern 5" F+R suspension rides they are close and distinctly retro.

Compared one-to-one the Ti-Pace Carbon is more forgiving than the P2. As for the RC 31s flex I'm a Clydesdale and no problems here (but tested in the "Dutch mountains" only). The geometry is changed by fitting the RC31, but the resulting package does work for me and others that rode it.

However, there's a particular look to a 90's steel Kona with a P2 that's just right somehow, and the ride is as it was intended. You can't go wrong either way I guess.

Surprise surprise... I've broken some RC31's.

Mine became unbonded after a crash and the details are on this site somewhere, a bloke over on STW had worse which resulted in expensive dentistry.

Note. I ride hard and was being a bit daft at the time the forks failed so it would be harsh to see this as a fork related failure only.

I was liking the ride of the RC31's on my Lloyd up until that moment...

The P2's on my Explosif have never caused me a moments worry...

I will not be buying any more RC31's but would very much like some Tripple Butted P2's with a one inch steerer to put on the Lloyd.

P2s are hard as hell compared to the RC31. As above, make sure you get the 420mm length. There is a real question mark over whether DT will actually bother produciing their version of the RC31 so used will be the way to go. Brake round the back looks way clean too, versus the P2 with them out front.
