Early Bontrager Race Lite

1x10 or 3x8

All right, help needed! About to pull the trigger on some drop bar brifters and need the pros to chime in here. I have it narrowed down to three options all Campy;
Veloce Ergopower 10 speed
Record Ultra Shifter Carbon 10 speed
Chorus Carbon Ergopower

What would be the best of the three or maybe what is the order in which they would rank?
Which should I go for in terms of reliability?

Regarding your 1x10 vs 3x8 poll, depends on the amount of gradient you ride across, but x3 on the front gives you more speed on the tarmac and completes the retro/proper look too.

I'm certainly not that good with Campag stuff, but had a fair bit pass my hands recently for one reason or another.

The Chorus 10 speed brifters do not need to be soot-epoxy levers.

The Centaur are as I've understood practically the same, and also rebuildable. They are sought after.

What I don't know exactly is if the left hand ratchet lever can throw enough for a triple chain ring in 8 x 3 mode. I suspect it could if you managed to really squeeze the BB width down and select the right band-on FD, and probably something from the 8 speed era too. I understood there was also lots of marketing talk and labelling which really didn't make any difference.

There is also the Centaur mid-cage RD which I think with some careful gear calculations and good shifting practice would be alright with a triple up front.

Looking forward to how your mixing and matches stitches together. That's about the best I know.
